Founded
in 1998 by Sensei Darien Cherry, Sakurambo Institute is a nonprofit
organization whose mission is to provide an alternative for inner
city youth by helping them develop self-discipline and self-esteem
through martial arts.
For
the past seven years, Sakurambo has been recognized as one of the
Top 20 schools in the nation by the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU).
Sensei Darien Cherry is the founder and executive director of Sakurambo Institute. A sixth degree black belt with more than 30 years of experience, Sensei Cherry is an expert in Jujitsu, Kenkojuku, Shotokan and Kajukembo martial arts. The University of Asian Martial Arts Studies recently conferred upon Sensei Cherry the Degree, Rank and Academic Status Doctorate of Martial Arts Philosophy and Martial Arts Science, Ph.D. Additionally, Sensei Cherry was recently inducted into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame as "Shotokan Karate Master of the Year". |
